2013 Shiraz Mourvedre

Our cool climate Shiraz has hints of white pepper and spicy fruit flavours pair perfectly with lamb and other slow cooked meat dishes. There are those that argue that Orange is where Shiraz ultimately finds its own balance in Australia.

REGION: Shiraz from vines planted on deep red basalt soils in Orange with Mourvedre from the foot hills of Orange in the Central Ranges, NSW
GRAPE VARIETY: 89% Shiraz | 11% Mourvedre
WINEMAKING: This 2013 Shiraz was harvested at the end of February with the Mourvedre in late March. The grapes were fermented at 24-30° C in static fermenters on skins for 10 days. The juice was pumped over twice daily to extract colour and tannins. The wine was then pressed into a combination of 2 and 3 year old French and American barriques and stainless steel to undergo 100% malolactic fermentation and 12 months maturation prior to blending and bottling in March 2014.
COLOUR: Dark ruby red with a youthful magenta hue.
AROMA: A lifted and fragrant aroma of dark berry fruits, violets, crushed herbs and briars.
PALATE: The palate is medium bodied with savoury flavours and a long finish. The appealing structure is balanced with grippy tannins that will soften with time.
WINE ANALYSIS: Alc/vol: 13.7%
ADDITIVES: Made using traditional methods. Some traces of egg products may remain. Preservative 220 added.
PEAK DRINKING: Enjoy now or age till 2019.
FOOD MATCHES: Enjoy with a range of game meat dishes, antipasti or richly flavoured cheeses.
