Plan A Long Weekend To The Orange Wine Region
With the June Long Weekend fast approaching let us help you plan a fabulous weekend away to the Orange Wine Region. Spend a few days immersing yourself in one of Australia’s best food & wine regions with boutique shopping and scenic outdoor experiences. Here is our guide to visiting Orange, NSW this June Long Weekend.
Top of our list would be a visit to the See Saw Cellar Door. A short ten minute drive from the Orange CBD, you’ll find yourself at our Nashdale Cellar Door where you can choose from a variety of experiences. For the wine lovers, we have our signature wine only tasting, which is a 60 minute experience with one of our See Saw staff members that take you through our selection of wines for the season. The tasting experience always starts with a glass of our well known Prosecco and then will be a variety of white and red wine varities. For those wanting a more in depth experience with our wines we have curated the ultimate food & wine experience alongside local chef Richard Learmonth.
The Seasonal Food & Wine Tasting offers a food pairing option highlighting local produce to enjoy alongside a selection of See Saw white and red varieties. The whites are paired with beetroot carpaccio, chardonnay vinaigrette, local fourjay hazelnuts and manchego cheese. The reds are paired with a braised lamb neck in a lamb gravy. For vegetarian, we offer a golden syrup and mustard roasted pumpkin with a pepita dressing. Book an experience at our Cellar Door here.
After enjoying a visit to our cellar door make the most of your time in our Wine Region by visiting some other local wineries. Just down the road from See Saw is the stunning grounds of Rowlee with a newly opened restaurant, a great lunch or dinner option or a short drive you can also find the hatted restaurant at Printhie Wines.
Whilst in the Orange Wine Region we encourage you to sample as many of our award-winning wines as possible! Be sure to add Swinging Bridge, Phillip Shaw, ChaLou & newly opened Logan Wines to your list.
A trip to the Orange Wine Region wouldn’t be complete without sampling the best food offerings from the region. A trip to Orange is never complete without a visit to The Union Bank.
Located in the heart of the CBD The Union Bank offers lunch and dinner reservations in their beautiful Schoolhouse Restaurant alongside walk in options for the famous outdoor courtyard. The menu is designed to be shared and is full of local produce. A popular snack menu item is Farmer Doug’s potato scallops, be sure to try them!
Other dinner options to add to your list include Japanese restaurant Raku Izakaya, family friendly pub (with kids playground) The Ophir Hotel and newly opened Italian restaurant Lucetta Dining. Orange is a food destination so we recommend booking ahead for any lunch or dinner reservations.
For brunch and coffee you are spoilt by choice, if you are wanting a delicious sit down breakfast book a table at Groundstone Cafe or try your luck for walk ins at Byng Street Local Store. A great family-friendly option with lots of outdoor space for kids to run around we suggest Larder & Home in Lucknow, perfect for large groups with bookings available. If a quick coffee or bite to eat is more your style we suggest Bills Beans in East Orange or Mad Hatters Drink Lab but be sure to try their delicious B&E roll with hash browns you wont regret it.
Our region is not only a dream to visit for the food & wine, our boutique retail offering is also something to explore! Another hot tip for your visit is to pack light as you can easily fill your bags with some amazing fashion, homewares and antiques. Many of the retail shops close on a Sunday so we highly recommend exploring our shops Saturday morning. Add Jumbled, Hawkes General Store, The White Place, Cint Boutique, Dirty Janes and The Essential Ingredient. For the art lovers, The Orange Regional Gallery and The Corner Store Gallery are both worth a visit!
